The Shelby GT350 is one of the meanest American road cars on the market right now. Its 5.2-litre, naturally aspirated V8 produces 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, providing racy engine sounds and breathtaking performance.
The GT350R is even meaner. Built for the track, yet street legal, it’s powered by the same engine as the GT350 but is more aerodynamic and lighter. Thanks to carbon fibre wheels as well as the removal of the air conditioning, the stereo, the trunk floorboard and carpeting, the rearview camera and the back seat, Ford shaved about 100 pounds, making the car slightly faster and more agile.
However, for some reason it seems as though customers really need that back seat, so Ford decided to offer it on the options list for 2016.
It will be trimmed with the same materials used for the front sport seats, including Alcantara and red contrast stitching. Obviously, the rear seats will also benefit from factory safety restraint systems, just like in the four-passenger Shelby GT350.
The back seat kit for the 2016 Shelby GT350R can be purchased and installed at one of the 12 Ford Performance Racing Parts dealers in Canada, at a price of $1,429 before taxes.
