Irv Gordon’s 1966 Volvo P1800S clocks three million miles

It has finally done it. Irv Gordon’s Volvo P1800S coupe has covered an incredible three million miles, or 4,828,032 km.

While many think 200,000 km is a bit too much for a single car to endure, Gordon’s P1800S has defied the norm. This loyal duo has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the most mileage covered by a privately owned vehicle.

The magic number came near the village of Hope, on the Seward Highway, just south of Anchorage, Alaska.

Gordon says, “It was all rather undramatic. We just cruised along and I kept an eye on the odometer in order not to miss the great moment.” At 4:00 PM on September 18, 2013, the three-million mile number was displayed on the dashboard.

Gordon has often said that he never set out to achieve such a milestone in his vehicle, but his daily 125-mile (200 km) round-trip work commute quickly started piling on the miles. He had hit the one-million mile mark back in 1987.

Volvo credits Gordon’s fanatical dedication to vehicle maintenance as a key reason for his car being able to keep on running. wants to congratulate Gordon on his achievement and wish him many more happy miles with his beloved car.
