Drive an electric car at the Montreal Auto Show

The 46th edition of the Montreal International Auto Show gets under way today at the Palais des Congrès de Montreal. And once again this year, it will be possible to drive an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Last year, about 3,600 people took the opportunity to drive an electric car. This year, 15 cars will be available to the public including the exclusive Tesla Model S.

In addition to the Model S, it will be possible to get behind the wheel of the the Nissan Leaf, the Smart Fortwo Electric, the Ford Fusion Energi, the Ford C-Max Energi , the Mitsubishi i-Miev and the Chevrolet Volt. Participants will travel a distance of 3.1 kilometers that combines both city and highway driving. Drivers will be accompanied by an expert familiar with the various technologies and vehicles, and who will be able to answer their questions.

This free activity is the initiative of CAA-Québec in collaboration with various automobile manufacturers (with the exception of Tesla), the Electric Circuit , Hydro-Québec and the Ministère des Ressources naturelles du Québec.

"Through this initiative, we want to help people better understand and get familiar with these technologies. While the retail price of some of these cars dropping, their range increasing and the network of recharging stations expanding, we believe that the benefits of buying one of these vehicles continue to increase," said Sophie Gagnon, Vice President of public Relations at CAA-Quebec.

Those who would like to try an electric or plug-in hybrid car can visit Viger Hall at the Palais des Congrès. The event takes place every day until January 26th.
