Nissan unveils every version of the 2015 Micra

We already knew that the 2015 Nissan Micra would be the only car on the market starting at less than $10,000. Today, Nissan unveiled the starting prices for the other trim levels of its new subcompact.

Priced from $9,998 before taxes and destination charges, the base Nissan Micra S obviously does not offer much in terms of standard equipment.

Nissan Micra S MT is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, six airbags as well as traction and stability control. It also offers 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps as well as front and rear stabilizer bars.

Buyers who want a little more equipment may find that the gap in pricing is rather wide between the base model and the next version, the Micra S 4AT. Indeed, it will be available from $13,298 before taxes and other fees, a difference of $3,300 compared with the Micra S MT. However, this model comes with air conditioning and cruise control with steering wheel controls, in addition to an automatic transmission.

At this level of equipment, Nissan says the Micra will be the most affordable car in its class. The automatic transmission, incidentally, only offers four speeds. However, we will wait to see how it behaves before passing judgement.

Then comes the Nissan Micra SV MT sold from $13,698 before taxes and destination changes. The same four-speed automatic transmission is also available on the SV, for an extra $1,000. In terms of equipment, the SV version adds steering wheel audio controls, power windows and Bluetooth. For $500 more, buyers can opt for the Convenience Package which adds a rearview camera, a USB port and a 4.3-inch central display.

Finally, the SR model will be sold from $15,748, again before taxes and destination, and mostly adds cosmetic elements such as 16-inch aluminum wheels, different headlights, a chrome exhaust tip, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a rear spoiler, among other things. Every feature of the Convenience Package are also standard in the SR model, and as in the SV version, the automatic transmission adds $1,000 to the invoice.

All versions of the 2015 Nissan Micra will be powered by a 1.6L four-cylinder engine that delivers 109 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque.

Among the elements that are not found on any version of the Nissan Micra, but are offered on some other competing subcompact models, are heated seats, an outside temperature gauge and satellite radio. Nissan explained that providing such equipment on the Micra could ultimately impact sales of the Nissan Versa Note. In addition, Nissan has made a point of making the Nissan Micra more affordable than its rivals, and in doing so, the manufacturer had to make some concessions regarding the features offered on the vehicle.

We will have to wait until the launch of the model in late April to find out whether this strategy will be well received by consumers. But what is already clear is that the 2015 Nissan Micra’s overall value will certainly be among its most compelling selling points.
