Overstated fuel economy: 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid owners will be compensated

The new average fuel consumption displayed on the Ford C-Max Hybrid 2013 will be 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers compared with the current 4.0 liters per 100 kilometers. Ford also announced that owners of the Ford C-Max Hybrid 2013 will receive a check for $895 while buyers who rented the car will receive a check for $595 to compensate for the difference in average costs between both consumption ratings.

Ford said that the error on the fuel economy displayed the C-Max Hybrid was due to the fact that the manufacturer used the consumption figures of the Ford Fusion Hybrid, which is permitted by the regulations of Natural Resources Canada. The C-Max Hybrid will be evaluated separately from the Fusion Hybrid starting in 2014.

The 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid will also receive a number of improvements designed to further improve fuel efficiency. The 2014 model will benefit from improved aerodynamics while the automatic transmission will be reviewed in order to improve performance and reduce fuel consumption.

2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid owners will be notified of the compensation by mail. They can also contact Ford Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-565-3673.
