Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition - The end of an era

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the first car built entirely by AMG, will sail into the sunset in 2014. The Final Edition is Mercedes-Benz’s way to commemorate one of the most impressive vehicles ever produced by the manufacturer.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition will be powered by the same 6.3 liter, AMG V8 engine delivering 583 horsepower that is currently found under the hood of the SLS AMG. However, AMG engineers have turned to carbon fiber to significantly reduce the weight of the Final Edition.

Indeed, the car will have a new wing made of carbon fiber while the front diffuser and hood are also built using the lightweight and ultra-resistant material. Buyers can choose between silver or matte black AMG wheels. Inside, diamond-pattern leather seats, carbon fiber trim and contrasting silver stitching are standard.

Like the current model, the Final Edition will be available in GT (coupe) and Roadster (convertible) versions. During its four year run, the SLS AMG has also been offered with an electric powerplant. And let us not forget the heart-pumping SLS AMG Black Series.

Only 350 Final Edition models will be built which makes the car an instant collectible. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition will be unveiled next week simultaneously at the Tokyo and Los Angeles Auto Shows.
