The new base engine on the 2015 F-150 will be a 3.5L V6 that features four valves per cylinder, and twin independent variable camshafts. This motor produces 283 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, and will be capable of towing 3,447 kg (7,600 lbs). The truck equipped with this engine is also rated to carry 866 kg (1,910 lbs) of payload in its bed.

One step up will be another new powerplant, a turbocharged (EcoBoost in Ford speak) 2.7L V6 that produces 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. According to Ford, the F-150 with this engine can pull 3,856 kg (8,500 lbs), while being able to carry 1,021 kg (2,250 lbs) in its bed.

While most pickup trucks are known for their thirst for petrol, Ford is adding auto start/stop technology to the 2015 F-150 equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost motor. This should potentially help reduce operating costs for this vehicle.

The 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and the 5.0L V8 from the current-generation F-150 will also be offered on the new 2015 models.

Ford made huge waves in the media back in January when they launched the 2015 F-150 at the North American International Auto Show, primarily because of the use of aluminium in its construction, which has cut 318 kg (700 lbs) of weight.
