Well, Ford has done it, figuratively that is. In the U.S., customers can now order bacon wraps for their 2014 Ford Fiesta in order to flaunt their favourite food.
This year, International Bacon Day is held on August 31st, a great occasion to get together, talk about bacon, share recipes made with bacon and devour massive quantities of bacon. According to research on the Web (and, uh, Ford's press release), bacon existed long before the birth of Christ, but Bacon Day has only been established in 2000. What took so long?
Did you know you can cure a hangover by eating bacon? Its high levels of protein and carbohydrates break down into amino acids, which supposedly allow you to clear your mind and help relieve migraines.
According to Allan Benton, CEO of Benton's Country Hams, "In the 40 years I've been in this business, I've never seen so much interest in bacon." He also stated that wrapping a car in bacon made so much sense. Um, ok.
So the 2014 Ford Fiesta can be optionally wrapped in 10 giant strips of bacon, a design that was actually approved by Benton (we are not making this up, but Ford might be). You can also choose bacon racing strips, or a side of bacon – two strips wrapped around each rear wheel. Yummy.
You can check out the Ford's graphic design packages on their dedicated website. Sadly, bacon wraps are not available in Canada. Not even with Canadian bacon.
